Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kindergroup?
Kindergroup is a non-profit membership-based community group for infants, toddlers, preschool children, and their parents and caregivers. Kindergroup was established in 1977 and has grown and evolved over the years; today Kindergroup offers weekly playgroups, field trips, social events, and sponsors major community events and outreach efforts. We are committed to making this year full of fun as we continue to support the growth of friendships and community. Come play and make new friends!
Is Kindergroup a daycare or drop-in playgroup?
No, we are not a daycare. Parents/caregivers stay with and are responsible for their own children during playgroups or field trips. We are also not a drop-in playgroup. While prospective members may schedule a visit by contacting the Membership Coordinator, all members must register and pay dues.
What do my membership dues go toward?
Dues help offset the organization's operating expenses including insurance, website hosting, P.O. Box, tax filing fees, etc. Dues also help us to provide some events at no cost to members (such as Moms' Nights Out, pizza nights at the playground, ice cream truck visits, etc) and/or to subsidize the cost of some events to make them more affordable (such as Apple Picking). Kindergroup is a membership-sponsored organization, so all playgroups, field trips, and social events are paid for by member dues and ticket sales, as applicable. Kindergroup solicits corporate sponsorships which support our larger annual community events such as Santa Day, the Turkey Trot, and the Easter Egg Hunt.
When do playgroups meet?
Playgroups meet on two Fridays per month from 9:30am-11:30 a.m. at the Fay School - Upjohn Building. Kindergroup follows the Southborough Public School calendar. We do not meet during school vacations, holidays or snow days. And while we do not meet regularly during the summer, members often set up playdates and informal events to maintain their friendships!
Where do playgroups meet?
Indoor playgroups will be held at Fay School in the Upjohn Building. There is parking available at various locations on/near the Fay campus.
Does Kindergroup go on field trips?
Yes! We typically schedule one field trip a month that "replaces" a playgroup day. Field trips may be at an additional cost to the member; however Kindergroup will always try to subsidize any costs. Some of our favorite adventures are apple picking, visiting the Southborough Public Safety Building, and decorating treats at Yummy Mummy Bakery.
Will I have the opportunity to meet other parents?
Yes! We schedule social events to encourage parents and caregivers to get together and socialize. Another great way to get to know other parents/caregivers is to join a committee.
What is the refund policy?
We encourage anyone who is interested in joining to have a visit first, to see if you and your child enjoy the playgroup. Once you have registered, if you decide to leave Kindergroup prior to your second week, you will receive a full refund. Choosing to leave after the second week and prior to the third week will result in a 50% refund. After the third week no refund will be granted. In the event of unusual circumstances refunds may be granted at the discretion of the Board.
Do I need to be a Southborough resident to join?
No! Over the years, our membership has grown to include families living in Northborough, Marlborough, Westborough, Ashland, Hopkinton, Framingham, and all the surrounding towns.
